CHAPTER 26: 'BEST I EVER HAD'

(Originally Posted Friday February 13, 2015)

Tomorrow is VALENTINE’S DAY!!! And in celebration of Cupid slinging his fabled arrows, the only song I could think to do was the one and only, “Best I Ever Had.” Words cannot describe how much I loved this song back in the day! It was the cherry on an already deluxe banana split! I could hear that song a million times – and literally did in Connecticut that summer – and it was never too much! I’d relish in just getting to hear it, and I obviously wasn’t alone as this song is till one of Drake’s biggest to date. It was exactly the type of song a girl like me had dreamed of hearing from the dude she was in love with, and that, “coupled” with what the song is actually about, make it the PERFECT Valentine’s Day tribute!
The music video for “Best I Ever Had” carries the theme of Valentine’s Day, as well, with the hot-pink uniforms the girls are wearing, the red accents of objects in the background, and the faded, romantic quality of the video itself. The video—directed by Mr. Yeezus West—was one of Drake’s more creative efforts and was even enjoyable to watch as a heterosexual female. I love the concept and look of the video, Drake’s attitude as he comes out after his team, as well as his reactions on the sidelines—but more importantly, I LOVED Drake’s “Take that D!” pep-talk during the classic ‘last 2-minutes’ huddle! It was all GENIUS, and even though “Best I Ever Had” was the last song you would expect after hearing “Houstalantavegas” and “Successful,” the difference only added to Drake’s repertoire, displaying his versatility in the Hip Hop genre.
On top of it being Valentines Day tomorrow, today also marks the SIX year anniversary of both So Far Gone the mixtape and “Best I Ever Had” the single. And it seems, in honour of that, Drake dropped a surprise release called, “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late” at 12am this morning. It had Twitter all abuzz as fans hash-tagged the title and mentioned @Drake in their tweets, but the album is not very “Valentines-y” so I’ll let you guys check out this link  which gives you a list of tracks, as well as the video for Drake’s short movie “Jungle.”

ENJOY VALNETINE’S DAY TOMORROW!
(whether you’re coupled-up or not)
AND I WILL SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY FOR A “BRAND NEW” POST! ;)

DRAKE - BEST I EVER HAD

Chapter 26: Best I Ever Had. Written By: Jae Antoinette

AFFION:

I can't believe Kendra isn’t calling me back with Valentine’s Day right around the corner. She’s actually serious. Just a few weeks ago it seemed like my number was the only one she knew, and now, nothing? She doesn’t make any sense! One minute we’re good, the next she stops seeing me. Then she comes back, is all over me, and then ignores the shit out of me on her birthday! Now it’s Valentine’s Day and I can’t a hold of her? What’s really good with this girl? I want to accept that she’s a fucked up bitch, but I’m wildin’ and I just can’t let it be. She’s the best I ever had in bed—especially when we’re hanging out—and it’s fucking with my head.
I admit, I wasn’t exactly “proving” I care by ignoring her calls, but my defence mechanism kicks in when I’m being hounded so I may have let that get out of hand. But I miss the way we used to chill and how good I felt around her in the beginning. None of the girls I’ve been with since can compare, and even they don’t last much longer than a booty call.
It’s kinda rough. It’s Valentine’s Day and it figures that now, when I want Kendra here, I can’t get her, and when I had her before, it got messed up. That’s been the story of our relationship from the beginning; I guess I don’t see why it would end any differently now …
