CHAPTER 39: 'UP ALL NIGHT'

Okay: So, I’ve done it. I’ve listened to Nothing Was The Same and If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late. To my surprise, I’d already heard both Take Care and Nothing Was the Same numerous times as background music when I was living at home (because of my brother, Kenny!) so a lot of the songs on those albums were already familiar to me without my knowing! Well, now I know, and I must say that "Too Much" and "Furthest Thing" hit me the hardest as far as songs I need to keep on my phone. Drake's most personal joints are the deepest and the emotion of truth behind these two are profound enough that I'd want to feature them if I were to feature all of Drake's albums.

If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late is a different story, though. This most recent album is still very new, and so the only tastes I’d gotten of it before hearing it were a 28-second Vine with a dancing Shad Moss (aka Bow Wow) jamming to “Energy” and “Know Yourself” because of Drake’s short-movie, Jungle. Those two songs are my favourite right now, but I still have to listen to all three albums a few more times before I’m really consistent in how I feel.

So that’s it. For the most part, I’m all caught up.

Funnily enough, in preparing myself do tonight’s song, “Up All Night,” I just so happened to stumble upon my copy of XXL's May 2010 Issue, which happens to feature the Young Money collaborators for the song and on the cover: Drake and Nicki Minaj! The soon-to-be 5-year old issue came out pre-Thank-Me-Later – and pre-Nicki-Minaj’s-even-bigger-body-proportions-to-date – and was a testament to what these two Hip Hop artists hoped to achieve after their first official album releases. I forgot I even had this magazine, so it’s kind of perfect that I was reminded of it just in time for this post!

**(P.s. And OMG, and like a big idiot my friend just shook me and told me the concert I had aforementioned in one of my older posts was Drake's May 13, 2009 "Homecoming" concert!!! Can you believe this?? Now I definitely have to see Homecoming, just in case they caught my head in the crowd! Hahaha!)

If you can believe it, I've gotten pretty serious about this Kendra thing, once again. I don't know what's become of her since I last seen here so that makes it kind of hard to know where she's at and approach her, but if I know Kendra, I'm sure any thoughtful or grand gesture will make its way through her somehow and get us to at least talk. 

         I've been distancing myself from Bria as of late just to keep focused on my task. She's a cool girl and all but she's been seeming a little thirsty ever since she showed up on my doorstep and let herself in. I honestly wouldn't mind us being friends, but I want to solidify this thing with Kendra before I'm distracted again. I know how girls can be and I know myself, so for once I'm going to be and stay focused, no matter what, and by the end of this come up with something glorious and persuasive, and I'm prepared to stay up all night to do it ...
